Now recommending macOS Golden Gate 🌉

Apple's latest Mac operating system, macOS 27 Golden Gate, came out in September, and Apple has already released fixes for early bugs. We now recommend upgrading.

What's new:

  • Noticeably faster: Apple says apps launch up to 30% faster and AirDrop is up to 80% faster. Early users agree it feels smoother than last year's version.

  • Automatic password protection: If one of your saved passwords is exposed in a data breach, the Passwords app can replace it with a new one for you.

  • A smarter Siri: A dedicated Siri app keeps your conversations in sync across your devices. Siri can also answer questions about anything on your screen.

  • A cleaner look: Apple has refined last year's redesign. There's a new transparency slider, a consistent toolbar, and colored sidebar icons are back.

You have two options to upgrade:

  • Do it yourself: When it suits you, go to System Settings > General > Software Update and install macOS Golden Gate.

  • Let us help: Contact PsiMac and we'll set up a remote session. Our standard rate applies.

Before you upgrade:

  • Make sure your backup is current.

  • Check that the apps and devices you depend on (like printers and scanners) support macOS Golden Gate.

  • Set aside some time. The upgrade can take an hour or more, and your Mac will restart during it.

  • Keep your Mac on until it's finished. For a laptop, keep it plugged in with the lid open.

Can your Mac upgrade?

Golden Gate needs a Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or newer). Intel Macs can't run it and will stay on macOS Tahoe (or prior). If your Mac won’t run Golden Gate, now is a good time to start planning a replacement, and we're glad to help with that.

One more thing: our support now centers on PsiMac Prime, our managed service plan. Members get upgrades like this one handled automatically, plus priority support, discounted consulting rates, and proactive monitoring to catch problems early.
